After the discovery of the bedchamber, the company regrouped on the surface just in time to welcome a couple new arrivals. Dronus Keligorm the bard had appeared in Sylo a couple days past along with his companion Gorthower the Red, a priest of Starry Justice, hoping to visit with his close friend Rhivella. After being brought up to date with recent events, Dronus convinced his friend to accompany him the Law’s End to see if they could aid the quest of recovering the Crown of Rhivum. After introductions were complete, the newly configured company descended once again into Nuromen’s Maze to make as good a use as possible of the remainder of the day. In the course of a few hours, they discovered a vast old storage area, the contents of which appeared to be completely useless with age and rot. Behind one tightly sealed door, they did discover a huge stockpile of wine barrels, appearing to be mostly intact. The sudden appearance of a ghostly apparition sent Martin fleeing in terror and stalled progress for the day. During that night’s watch, several Harpies appeared and assaulted the camp. One was brought down and the other two severely wounded before they fled into the night sky, but not before a couple elves, including Modi (close companion of Grimly and Mabe), were slain.
The next morning, it became clear that the elves all intended to accompany the bodies of the slain back to Sylo in order to attend their solemn burial rights. Although some of the remaining members of the company (especially Mabe) felt conflicted and might just as soon join the funeral party, both Grimly and Rhivella gave assurances that the continued pursuit of their objective would be honorable enough to the memory of the fallen. In the midst of all this activity, two additional new arrivals appeared on the scene. Harper the elf, one of Yysod’s Folk from the Hills of Ham had also recently appeared by chance in Sylo with his jester friend, Rogan of Fourwell, and the two of them were intrigued by the possibility of helping to recover the Crown of Rhivum on behalf of Yysod and his daughter. So these two joined Mabe, Martin, Emil and Fugly in another descent into Nuromen’s Maze, while Dronus and Gorthower remained to watch the campsite.
Their first thought was to avenge the deaths of their elvish friends in case the wounded harpies had retreated to their lair in the feast hall. This guess proved accurate and the company managed to coax the creatures out of their previously undiscovered nest in a high gallery to meet their doom. A clutch of their vile eggs were subsequently discovered and destroyed. Further exploration led to the discovery of a second level of the dungeon, where the companions were soon assaulted by zombies in the tattered uniforms of an ancient honor guard. The encounter nearly proved fatal, but the last of these creatures were dispatched just in time for the gravely wounded Martin and Rogan to be stabilized by their companions.
